End-to-end engineering of a plug-and-play remote start and idle management system for North American Class 8 semi-trucks.
Over-the-road drivers in Canada operate in conditions where diesel gels, batteries drain overnight, and a cold engine start risks serious mechanical damage. The standard practice — leave the engine idling for hours, or wake before dawn to warm up manually — was both expensive and increasingly illegal under anti-idling regulations.
The industry had no affordable, warranty-safe aftermarket remote start solution built for heavy-duty diesel trucks. The client arrived with a clear product concept and an open market. They needed a team capable of owning the product from hardware to app to cloud — and shipping something commercially ready.
No warranty-safe aftermarket remote start existed for 2013+ semi-trucks across any of the major OEM brands.
Cold starts and overnight idling cost fleets thousands per truck annually in fuel, engine wear, and compliance risk.
Seven major North American truck manufacturers — each with a proprietary electrical architecture.
Proprietary plug-and-play device with truck-specific OEM adapter harnesses. No factory wiring is cut or spliced. Validates vehicle state before every start sequence.
Cross-platform driver app with remote start, real-time engine status, GPS tracking, alert management, and configurable runtime — accessible from any cellular connection.
Real-time data pipeline for vehicle status, battery voltage, engine temperature, and location — with push notifications and a subscription management layer.
Multi-point pre-trip inspection engine with automated shutdown on critical anomalies. SafeMode hard-disables all remote starts when a technician is present.
Start the engine from any location via app. Configurable runtime from 10 minutes to 1 hour.
Engine starts automatically when coolant temperature drops below a driver-defined threshold.
Starts automatically when battery drops below 12V, preventing dead batteries during rest periods.
Real-time location with engine status. Built-in theft recovery capability for fleet operators.
Verifies 6 parameters — oil, coolant, parking brake, gear, battery, hood — before any start.
Continuous monitoring of coolant, oil pressure, and temperature. Auto-shutdown at critical thresholds.
Push notifications for battery voltage, engine status, runtime, and failure diagnostics.
Plug-and-play adapters. No factory wiring splice. Compatible with 2013+ trucks across 7 brands.
Every hard constraint in this project came from the physical world — truck electrical systems, extreme weather, remote locations, and mechanics with wrenches. We solved each one at the engineering layer, not with workarounds.
Seven manufacturers, seven proprietary electrical architectures. We built a library of OEM-specific adapter harnesses so a single firmware base works across all supported models without wiring modifications.
Remotely starting a diesel engine with no driver present required a rigorous multi-sensor validation sequence. Six parameters are verified before initiation; three are monitored continuously during operation.
Drivers park in areas with poor cellular coverage. The communication layer handles intermittent connectivity gracefully — queuing commands, confirming execution, and alerting drivers on failures.
Any factory wiring modification voids the OEM warranty — a hard constraint for fleet operators. Solved entirely at the hardware level using pass-through adapter harnesses that leave factory wiring untouched.
The install had to be accessible to a driver with no electrical background. We redesigned the connector sequence and built a guided flow with live video-call support — achieving under two hours from box-open to first remote start.
We built across embedded firmware, mobile, cloud, and hardware — all under one engineering team. This gave us full control over reliability, safety, and future feature delivery without external dependencies.
We take products from concept to commercial launch — embedded hardware, firmware, mobile apps, and cloud infrastructure, all under one roof.
